I recently took advantage of the free offer to download a non-demo version of Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio 3 and decided to start learning how to make screen capture videos with it. I believe the offer is still up, so you may want to get in on it. I don’t have a link handy for it, but a quick search will turn it up for you. Seems everyone has blogged about it. It is a great deal.
I decided to do my first Camtasia video on how I use Micro Niche Finder to produce low-competition keywords that I can target in both articles that I submit to article directories and for themed pages on my websites as well as on my blog sometimes.
I’ll warn you upfront that the video is pretty rough, and it took me almost to the end of the video to realize that it’s actually possible to move the capture window around so people can see what you’re trying to demonstrate on the screen. I don’t catch on too quickly. So, the part where I’m entering my super duper KEI formula into Excel is out of view in the video.
Here is the formula in case you’d like to try this at home:
=IF( D2>10000,0,(B2*B2)/D2)
This basically filters out keywords that have more than 10000 competing pages and leaves me with a computed KEI for the rest. Hopefully, what remains, are some nice juicy long-tail keywords that I can rank for in Google without too much difficulty and too lengthy a wait.
I also incorrectly stated in the video that Micro Niche Finder gives you daily search counts. Actually, the WordTracker free tool gives you daily search counts and MNF multiplies this result by 30 to produce a computed monthly search count. So the search count in MNF is actually a 30-day total.
I should have reshot the video, but I’m extremely lazy.
If you haven’t done so yet, you really should watch all of the videos that James Jones has on the sales page for MNF. They’re loaded with terrific ideas for keyword and niche research.
