One of the initial steps to profiting from promoting ClickBank products is to find a product that converts. Of course, the first step is identifying a hungry market, but assuming that you’ve already found one, here is the method I use to qualify CB products that I will promote.
A lot of emphasis is placed on the gravity metric for CB products. You can read about what gravity actually is over at CB, but it shouldn’t be the only metric you use to qualify a product. For instance, a newly listed product in ClickBank will have a very low gravity just because it hasn’t been promoted much by affiliates. This doesn’t tell you anything about the quality of the product nor its potential to convert into sales. You’ll need to dig in a little deeper.
Often, newly listed products are where you can make good money since you’ll be one of the first to promote them. Of course, the product needs to be of high quality and also satisfy the needs of that hungry market you’ve already found.
It’s also possible to make decent profits from established products with lots of other affiliates promoting them. This is where a high gravity becomes more important. You’ll just need to be more aggressive in your marketing. You’ll also probably need to put in the extra work and build a landing page as well as sweeten your offer to entice buyers.
A great all around service for evaluating all of the products offered for sale at ClickBank is CBEngine. You can find virtually any metric you need on CBEngine, but perhaps the most valuable feature is the ability to find fast movers that you can exploit. These can take the form of newly-listed products that are just starting to take off or products that were removed and have just been relisted. You can catch a “bounce” if you’re lucky.
CBEngine is very affordable at only $9.95 for a 3 month membership.
A great free tool that I always use to evaluate any CB product I’m thinking about promoting is CBTrends.com.
The metrics here go way beyond what’s available at CB and they are also graphically presented in the form of charts. So you can see at a glance how a product has been performing. Sometimes, all I need to do is scroll down and look at the popularity trend chart in a specific category for an eBook and know right away if it’s worth my time and money promoting.
In the end, these tools and methods just assist with prediction. The final proof will be in your testing.
So identify a few CB products that pass your initial evaluation criteria and blast out a few “Google Cash” campaigns. Gather 300 clicks or stop when your PPC losses hit your threshold for comfort. Then assess the damages. Even if you only made 1 or 2 sales and just broke even or lost a bit of money, it may be worth your time to take things to the next level and build a mini site and start collecting email addresses for the next phase.
