IM 101 - Introduction

April 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about what a college curriculum in Internet Marketing might look like. I haven’t searched on the topic, but I don’t know of any universities or colleges that offer degrees in IM. Of course, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist, just that I haven’t run across any.

Actually, with the explosive growth during the past 5 years in everything Google and industries that revolve around it such as SEO, SEM, affiliate and Internet marketing, it would be a reasonable expectation to see college level courses based around these disciplines.

Even if such courses and offerings don’t currently exist in academia, rest assured that there is no dearth of commercial offerings of widely varying quality out there. One only need subscribe to a handful of IM email lists for conclusive proof of this.

In that context, I would like to tackle the job of outlining what such a college curriculum in IM might look like. And while in the process, also flesh out some of the topics and materials for the courses that would comprise such a curriculum. So in effect, killing two birds with one stone since I do receive inquiries about the best ways to get started with doing business online.

Though admittedly, I’m far from an expert in IM, I still do make a full-time living online and this is as good a time as any for me to reflect on and document both what has worked for me along with what hasn’t. So in the coming days, weeks, and months, I’ll be documenting those very things here on IMMania.com. I’ll probably also begin loading the posts in this series into an email auto-responder series and leverage it for a little list-building project along the way as well.

It would also be great to get a public dialog going via the comments here — questions, your own experiences, as well as input from those more experienced that me.
