I’ve described a little about the current state of my online business in a previous post and it’s now time to take inventory of what assets I have left and where to take things next. It brings to mind images you see on TV after a natural disaster such as a flood, tornado, or a hurricane: homeowners picking through what’s left of their homes trying to find anything that might be salvageable. Books, an old sofa, or even a few cherished family photos that somehow escaped being soaked by the floodwaters, certainly not enough to replace what they’ve lost, but at least something to hang onto as the rebuilding process starts. I certainly don’t mean to compare my current situation to such tragedies, but the mental picture hits home with me.

The IM Food Chain
In a previous post, “IM In An Uncertain Economy“, I discussed the potential impact of the worsening US economy on the business models we pursue online. At this particular point in time things are looking very scary for the US economy and the proposed moves to inject some life into it by the government appear to be the equivalent of spitting on a raging inferno.
It’s going to get uglier before signs of a recovery begin to appear I’m afraid.
IM Goals For 2008
First off, Happy (belated) New Year! It looks like I’ve stumbled a bit out of the gate heading into the new year. One of my resolutions (I hate that word) is to post more frequently here at IMMania.com. I’m really going to work on that.
I got to!
Rather than hash over the same old resolutions/goals that are pretty typical when looking ahead to the coming year, I’ll just touch on a few of the more important goals that I absolutely, positively, must get accomplished.
No ifs ands or buts!
Don’t Leave Money On The Table
To be honest, I didn’t encounter the expression “Don’t Leave Money On The Table” until I was working for a very small startup about 5 years ago. The expression struck me as amusing since who would be silly enough to or wealthy enough for that matter to just leave money behind?
It brought to mind the image of robber barons lighting cigars with $100 bills.
Working for a tiny startup company gave me unique access to the CEO and strategy meetings that usually focused on sales and marketing. They weren’t the typical discussions centering around technical issues that I was used to participating in as an engineer.
Tracking Monthly Goals With MS Word Calendar Wizard
I’m a big fan of “To Do” lists. This probably stems from many years trying to stay on task on tight deadlines as a software developer. My “To Do” lists often just consist of small sheets of paper or scribbled entries in a notebook. Of course, my “To Do” list changes from one day to the next and sometimes even from hour to hour.
Nevertheless, I need to have some general guidelines for what I need to accomplish over the course of a day. But what about longer term “To Do” lists? Ones extending out to a week or even a month?
