Do ClickBank Affiliates Really Make Money?

September 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment

You’ve probably seen the emails and sales pages promoting info products that promise to show you how to make a killing promoting ClickBank products as an affiliate. They make it look like this is the easiest money you’ll ever earn. I’ve been seduced into purchasing just about every product on the subject of selling CB products.

I guess I’m a sucker for those “proof of earnings” screenshots.

All I need to see is all those really long green and purple bars from the author’s ClickBank reports summary shooting off the screen. That’s really all it takes for me to start reaching for my credit card. But like Charlie Brown, I usually get the football yanked away by Lucy right when I’m ready to boot it through the goal posts.

I can sum up what’s in most if not all of those ebooks with the following simple equation:

High Gravity CB product + Adwords = $$$$Huge Profits

Do you think I oversimplified things?

No, I really don’t think so. Most all of these ebooks and courses describe the same basic strategy and tactics. Of course some do a better job of providing a bit of detail on keyword research and Adwords techniques, but Adwords is an entire subject all on its own and a 40 page eBook can’t even begin to scratch the surface.

And that’s where the real problem lies.

I have tried selling quite a few ClickBank eBooks using the so-called “Google Cash Method“, which is nothing more than driving traffic from Adwords directly to the vendor’s sales page. The interesting or should I say frustrating thing about this method is that I’ve always managed to sell a few copies of the ebook I was promoting, but what inevitably happens is that sales all of a sudden stop and I wind up either just breaking even or with a small loss for my efforts.

I have some theories on why this happens, but I’ll save those for another post.

Now I’m not proclaiming that the “Google Cash Method” doesn’t work because I’ve used it successfully for physical products from Commission Junction and I’ve found a use for it even with CB products. Actually, I’ve been running a GC campaign for a CB product going on 2 months now and I’m currently showing a small profit of $100 so far this month. Yeah, I’m not going to buy a yacht with that money, but this campaign has proven some rather important things:

1. I’ve found a high gravity product that converts well (%1.3)
2. I now have 5 very tightly-focused Adgroups with keywords that convert
3. I’m now in a position to move on to the next phase with this promotion and build a landing page

The ebook by the way is in the Health and Fitness category and no, it’s not Tom Venuto’s “Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle“, which everybody and their dog is promoting. No knock against BFFM, I have it and it’s probably one of the best books on the subjects of fat loss and nutrition around, but the competition is stifling.

I also have a review copy of the ebook I’m promoting now and it’s fantastic. I also happen to know a thing or two about the health and fitness area and the author of this book really knows his stuff so I’m very enthusiastic when I’m promoting it.

To come full circle and get back on topic about ebooks on how to make money selling ClickBank products as an affiliate I would say the 2 best books on the subject are both by the same author: Chris of “Day Job Killer“. Actually, DJK isn’t one of them. I recommend his “Adwords Miracle” and “Affiliate Project X“.

Adwords Miracle” is not specifically about CB, but has some really good stuff on using Adwords, which is essential for promoting CB products using Adwords. Chris’ “Affiliate Project X” has some really ingenious methods for rising above your competition and snagging some sales. In fact, I plan to use on of the tactics from the book in the next phase of promoting the fitness ebook.
