I went full time with my online business at the beginning of February 2007. I had been a software engineer prior to that. I enjoyed the creative aspects of writing code and designing software, but I never could fully accept working for someone else. Despite that, I learned a lot of things technology-wise that continue to help me with my online business. I also picked up a few things about marketing and how to run a business — both what works and what doesn’t.
I launched my first affiliate website in July 2005 and made my first commission that following October. It was a fairly hefty commission for a big-ticket item and I continue to earn a nice income from this first site. Since then, I’ve built several other affiliate sites and earn some commissions from them as well as pulling in some Adsense revenue. I’ve discovered that it’s vital to define what your business model is and then define the processes and tools you need to scale it up. Scalability gets discussed so much in the business world that it’s now become a cliche, but you really need to be turning that crank everyday in order to grow your business. No matter what kind it is.
There’s no question that I’ve learned a great deal since putting up my first site and I continue to learn a few things each day I’m online. I actually learn more on a daily basis than I did as an engineer and you know how much things in the world of technology change on a regular basis.
Of course, there’s the inevitable information overload and anyone doing this stuff is hit with it. I’ve discovered a few strategies for coping with it that I’ll be sharing here on IMMania.com, but for now, my hope is to bring you insights and resources from my brief time online that you can benefit from and possibly save you some time on the learning curve.
To our success!
Rich

Hi Paul, thanks for dropping in and also for pointing out that I haven’t made it easy for visitors to contact me :-).
I’m looking around for a WP email contact form plugin, so if you know of any, please let me know. In the mean time, I’ve pasted in a gif file with my contact email above.
