If you are involved in any way with online marketing then you’ve heard all the buzz about getting traffic from Web 2.0 sources. And of course the number of inevitable products that will teach you how to tap into this wealth of free traffic continues to grow. A product that recently launched at the time of this writing is the S.M.A.R.T.S program from the boys over at Stompernet.

The IM Food Chain
In a previous post, “IM In An Uncertain Economy“, I discussed the potential impact of the worsening US economy on the business models we pursue online. At this particular point in time things are looking very scary for the US economy and the proposed moves to inject some life into it by the government appear to be the equivalent of spitting on a raging inferno.
It’s going to get uglier before signs of a recovery begin to appear I’m afraid.
IM In An Uncertain Economy
Well, the numbers are finally in and the US retail sector had its worst holiday season in 5 years. Economists had been predicting this even before the 2007 holiday shopping season kicked into gear. Actually, anyone paying any attention at all to the dire economic news — sub-prime mortgage mess, turmoil in the credit markets, and ever rising food and energy prices, could have seen this coming from way off
It was only a matter of time before the US consumer started putting a clamp on spending.
Tracking Visitors and Conversions
One of my goals for 2007 was to get off the stick when it comes to tracking. Any kind of tracking really, since I wasn’t doing much if any prior to last year. The tracking that I did do consisted mainly of looking at my site stats in Webalizer. It was a start and I at least got a feel for my traffic numbers, referrers, search terms, and countries where my visitors originated from, but I was doing next to nothing when it came to tracking conversions.
And that’s a key piece of business data needed by anyone doing business online.
The Secret To Creating a Successful IM Product
I just launched a PHP-based IM product called “Rapid Landing Page Generator“. RPLG for short. It’s a PHP script that I first developed for use in my own eBay affiliate campaign blasts. I just needed a way to get a landing page slapped together quickly for use with Adwords. One that had the requisite privacy, contact, and other necessary pages to make Google happy and one to dynamically sprinkle keywords within the content a few times. The final piece was the ability to pull in relevant snippets from various RSS feeds.
