OK, I’ll apologize at the outset for the title of this post. It probably got you to click thru just to see what the deal is, but there actually is some useful info in here if you’ll stick with me.
I’d like to discuss a trend in the IM industry that has been extremely hot and shows little sign of letting up. This would be the membership model.
The membership model is more clinically or more sinisterly referred to as the “forced continuity” model.

A few years back when Google was just an upstart in the search engine market and my search engine of choice was InfoSeek, I had an idea to make searching more user-friendly. I was just starting to come to grips with the power of Boolean search queries and wanted a way to hide this from the user. My idea was to slap a front end over top search engines such as InfoSeek and AltaVista and embed it somehow into Internet Explorer.

The dust has settled a bit after yesterday’s chaotic launch of “PPC Classroom“. I can only imagine how wiped out the launch team is. On top of the server problems, Jeremy and Anik had to field a bunch of questions from confused and somewhat upset customers over the terms of the monthly membership.

The much anticipated launch of PPC Classroom happened today. It just didn’t go off precisely as scheduled, which was 12pm EDT.
The sales page had a countdown timer and when it finally got down to 00:00:00, refreshing the page caused it to put 7 more minutes back on the clock. OK, some minor technical glitches, it’s to be expected.
However, the delays till launch continued.
The sales page with the order link didn’t finally appear until sometime after 1pm — more than an hour after the scheduled launch. At this point, I was feeling pretty frustrated as well as annoyed. I then had problems submitting my order, but finally overcame that with a couple of page refreshes.

The much anticipated launch of PPC Classroom happens tomorrow or as the UK marketers like to say: “drops” tomorrow. As far as big product launches go, PPC Classroom hasn’t had a long run up to its launch date. I think I just heard about it maybe 2 weeks ago. I also haven’t be deluged with emails from a ton of affiliates like on other launches and I think this has a lot to do with the primary creator of PPC Classroom.
And that would be none other than Jeremy Palmer, the million dollar uber affiliate who gave us “High Power Affiliate Marketing” (HPAM).
